Paddington Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) is now offering even more diagnostic services with the launch of the new Sleep Service, in partnership with Aintree University Hospital, part of the University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (UHLG).
The new sleep service at Paddington CDC will support the revolutionary WatchPAT home sleep study test. Patients are fitted with a disposable watch like device that they can wear at home to monitor their sleep patterns and help diagnose sleep conditions like sleep apnea easily and effectively.
The Aintree Sleep Service has seen a big increase in demand over the past few years in large part due to the rise in popularity of weight loss injections. Sleep apnea is considered one of the weight related conditions required for eligibility to receive the medication.
By offering the sleep service at Paddington CDC, patients are provided with more appointment options and a convenient, accessible location.
The sleep service at Paddington represents one of a number of new expanded services that will be offered at the central location over the next few years. This also supports the work towards the NHS 10-year plan of offering more diagnostic services out in the community. With the addition of this new service option and a further location at Liverpool Women’s Hospital CDC, 50% of all Aintree Regional sleep services are now performed at a community location.
Michelle Moody, Operational Site Manager at Paddington CDC said, “We are happy to be able to offer sleep services at Paddington CDC. This will mean a lot to patients who are referred into the service as we are able to give them the option of attending their appointment at our convenient, central location that offers more accessibility.
In fact, we recently welcomed a patient who had a fear of lifts and was wary of attending their appointment at Aintree Hospital, so they requested to be referred here – they were much more comfortable attending at Paddington as we don’t require access via lifts and we were so pleased to be able to accommodate them.”
Gavin Phillips, Clinical Service Manager, Aintree Regional Sleep Service and Clinical Lead for the Physiological Sciences Network, Cheshire and Merseyside Provider Collaborative said, “The development of community sleep services has been a big step in helping us to improve access and reduce waiting times for all patients who use our service. Cheshire and Merseyside have some of the shortest waiting times for sleep studies in the UK due to the innovative developments and changes introduced by our regional sleep service teams.
With the launch of the sleep service at both Paddington CDC and Liverpool Women’s Hospital CDC, we can ensure all Cheshire and Merseyside patients can have their home sleep apnoea test (HSAT) booked within 6 weeks of their referral from their GP.”
