Choosing a wig

We want to make your experience of choosing a wig a positive one and we aim for a quality service.

When choosing your wig at one of our approved suppliers, the minimum service you should receive includes:

• A 45-minute appointment (if your appointment is pre-booked) - please try to make an appointment beforehand
• A choice from at least 10 NHS wigs (the use of wig catalogues is expected to be minimal)
• The wigs shown to you are an appropriate colour
• A private room during the assessment
• Adequate lighting and a large enough mirror
• A competent stylist to cut and style your wig
• An information leaflet on how to care for your wig
• Your wig supplier will ask you to complete a patient satisfaction form after your wig has been supplied and fitted
• Being treated with dignity, empathy and privacy at all times

Choosing a wig

•  It is a good idea to take a relative or friend with you to help you choose
• If you would like to match your wig to your own hair colour and style, you may want to choose your wig before your hair actually falls out
• You may however decide to choose a completely different style and/or colour for a change
• Your wig can be cut and styled to make it look and feel more personal

Where can I get a wig?

You can use your wig prescription ONLY at one of the suppliers on the following page - if you try to use your voucher at a supplier not listed then your order will NOT be accepted or paid for by The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

How much will it cost?

You may choose a wig up to the value of £150.00 with your wig prescription.

If your wig costs more than this, you will be required to pay the difference directly to the shop.

You will need to have your wig prescription form (available from your cancer information and support centres, nurse or radiotherapist) when you pay for your wig.
