I’ve just celebrated one year at Clatterbridge after joining in April 2023!
I was looking to work at oncology hospitals in the UK because it’s my dream to do a PhD in Nursing here, and I came across Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool. I was lucky enough to pass my interview and get a Staff Nurse position.
Previously, I was working at a cancer centre in Bangalore, India from 2015 as a Staff Nurse for three years. While working there I was trained as a CVAD (Central Venous Access Devices) Nurse in Mumbai for a month to insert PICC lines - I have inserted almost 500 PICC lines since my training! Then from 2018-2020, I finished my MSc Nursing in Obstetric and Gynaecological Nursing from JIPMER India , before rejoining as a Senior Registered Nurse at the same hospital. I then got promoted and worked as Clinical Educator and Infection Control Nurse for two years.
I have always had a strong passion for Medical Sciences, and chose nursing as a field to explore and further cultivate my enthusiasm in this area. Once I discovered my passion for nursing, I knew it was the right fit for me, and I’ve been dedicated to the profession ever since.
The aspect that interested me most about nursing was the chance to combine my passion for helping others with the opportunity to continuously learn and grow within a dynamic and diverse field. The ability to provide compassionate care and support to those in need continues to inspire me.
The most rewarding part of my job is the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of patients and their families every day. Seeing their gratitude and knowing that I’ve played a part in their care journey is incredibly fulfilling. When patients ask me “Are you back in tomorrow?” it makes me feel that they are happy with my care.
There have been some challenges to adjusting to working in a different country, such as familiarizing myself with new healthcare systems and cultural differences. I actually went to scouse school for a day to help me understand the scouse accent!
But since joining Clatterbridge, I have felt incredibly supported by my colleagues and managers. The sense of teamwork and collaboration within the team has been exceptional, and I’ve received valuable guidance and encouragement from my peers and supervisors. Their support has been instrumental in my transition and has greatly contributed to my development. My manager is the solution for all my problems – she is so approachable and friendly.
I appreciate Clatterbridge for its commitment to patient-centred care and its supportive work environment. I was recognised for my skills on Ward 4 at CCC-L and was nominated to meet King Charles at Buckingham Palace on his birthday. It was such a great honour for me to meet King of England.
Looking towards the future, I see myself continuing to expand my skills and knowledge within nursing, possibly pursuing advanced certifications or specializations. Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to the field of healthcare in a meaningful way while continuously striving for personal and professional growth of which Clatterbridge is helping me to do.
