Occupational therapy (OT) aims to improve your ability to do everyday tasks that you may be having difficulties with.

At The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, occupational therapists can work with patients during their stay to address physical, cognitive and psychosocial symptoms relating to their cancer diagnosis or associated treatments.

This might include:

  • Physical – Tasks like walking, getting in and out of bed, making meals and getting washed and dressed
  • Cognitive – This is the way your brain processes information. Some cancers and their treatments can affect your memory, concentration and decision-making
  • Psychosocial – Cancer and its treatments can affect your mental and emotional health, and your relationships with others

What we do

We provide specialist occupational therapy (OT) assessment and treatment for adults receiving inpatient cancer treatment at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool (CCC-Liverpool).

Occupational therapists consider the things you want and need to do each day. At Clatterbridge, our occupational therapists are based in our Liverpool centre (CCC-Liverpool), and are experts in assessing and treating the physical, cognitive and psychosocial challenges that can come with cancer diagnosis or treatment.

Our occupational therapists might help to support you during your inpatient stay, or be a part of planning your discharge from hospital.

This might include:

  • Prescribing equipment to improve your independence or safety
  • Assessing your functional needs – everyday tasks like eating, drinking, washing, cooking, going shopping
  • Advice and education on managing fatigue (persistent tiredness)

We accept referrals from The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre’s consultants, nurses and allied health professionals (AHPs). If you think you should be referred to us, speak to your clinical team.
